About the Curator

A curator, artist, and designer, Dario Vargas is the assistant curator of DISPERSED  the second virtual exhibition of the cycle "Emerge: Revelations in Virtual Convergence". Heis  currently completing his post-doctoral dissertation in the Department of Geography and Technology of the University of São Paulo (ECA-USP), the same institution where he earned his PhD degree. Previously, he earned his a BFA in Graphic Design from the National University of Colombia, a country where he also held various adjunct professor positions in the fields of fine arts, photography, and film.

Dario's artistic practice has developed through individual and collective works, previously exhibited in international events such as Ars Electronica, ISEA, and Besides the Screens. In parallel, Dario develops curatorial and academic work, with articles often published in independent publications such as the International Journal of Creative Interfaces and Computer Graphics. Along with his academic work, Dario frequently organizes cultural events related to electronic and digital arts, along with research groups in Brazil.

Departing from his own experience as an artist who emigrated and established himself in a different country, as a visual researcher and curator focused on geography, technology, and their cultural interdependencies, and with prime current knowledge of the artistic currents emerging in South America and Brazil specifically, his contribution as supporting curator for Dispersed is particularly relevant.
