Born in Cascais in 1998, Catarina’s artworks explore themes that encompass time, memory and place. From domestic and family objects deformed by the passage of time, Catarina moves to work on the rural landscape, using formal expressions such as land art and painting. In her latest work, poetically fusing naturalism and impressionism, the artist links the image of rural houses with the vision of home in memory. Concepts such as community, ephemerality, and sharing are reflected in Catarina’s artworks, which serve as a vehicle to establish a tacit dialogue between the artist and the public.
For Catarina Gentil, art is not only a visualization process, but a way of feeling the world and registering her experience of it along with others, thus, art becomes a space in which the collective experience of the human condition are echoed. Her studies in Fine Arts at the University of Porto, her internship at the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, and her participation in different exhibitions and artistic residencies, reiterate and enhance this path, in which the work is reconfigured in time and memory.
